ABOUT WENATCHI WEAR
Local Indigenous authentic threads designed with a purpose, creating awareness & empowering Indigenous Peoples.
Wenatchi Wear is a for profit Indigenous owned small business.
Our designs are created by my little red hands, beginning with original hand sketches produced on p'squosa homelands.
Our passion is art, community and growing small businesses. Husband & wife team who own and operate a local graphic design business, R Digital Design, in the Wenatchee Valley since 2013. We are able to put our professional skills & knowledge into marketing and brand development. If you see a display, signage you like, we can produce the same high quality products for your brand.
We design with purpose
Each of our designs has a story behind it, with the emphasis of our designs continuing to share local Native American history, tribal tales, and general knowledge.
We believe in creating a product everyone can be proud to represent. We are passionate about preserving Native American history & culture in North Central Washington and are able to accomplish this through a contemporary creative process, while reaching a broader range of people through wearable art.
Fundraising
Our current partnership grassroots fundraiser is spearheaded by Mary Big Bull-Lewis.
It was started to create awareness of the land that we all currently live, play & recreate on and give an opportunity for all to give back via (monetary) donations.
Obtaining a piece of homelands is important. Our plans to fundraise for land, build a community center and trading post. The community center will be a safe place for all local Indigenous Peoples to gather, practice traditions, and create. The trading post will continue to carry Wenatchi Wear merchandise as well other local Native American arts.
With the goal of continuing growth for this fundraiser, Mary set out to form an Indigenous lead nonprofit in early 2021. The Indigenous Roots & Reparation Foundation is a 501c3 nonprofit that has taken over the management of the land back fundraiser. Follow Indigenous Roots and Reparation Foundation on social media or check out our website for updates.
Wenatchi Wear continually donates to this land back fundraiser, one method is by dedicating a percentage of our proceeds. We will host sales on particular products or time frames that will outline the fundraiser & the amount donated to the Land Back project.
We promote Inspired Native art
Purchasing authentic art from Indigenous artists empowers Indigenous Communities. Native inspired or other art that is not authentically made by Native Artists presents a barrier to Native Art Entrepreneurs who must compete with shelf space already dominated by non-Native companies mass producing product featuring appropriated art. While socially conscious consumers who appreciate Native themes and aesthetics, with even tribal communities themselves purchasing these products without conscious awareness of how their patronage either support or undermines the work of Indigenous Artists and Entrepreneurs.
Our art is a modern display of nature, legends, history, and fun!
Wenatchi Wear's designs & products are not affiliated with any tribal governance.
